Research & Insights
Canada's Economic Evidence Backbone for Black Business.
Research and Insights is the Foundation’s research engine solving a national crisis: the shortage of high-quality, real-time data on Black-owned businesses in Canada.
While traditional agencies rely on lagging census data, The Nod Foundation uses the proprietary Nod App; a live black owned business app and community platform to track economic activity as it happens. By mapping the transition from the shadow economy to the formal sector, we give the Canadian government predictive insights rather than historical reports.

Driving National Economic Growth
We leverage real-time data from the Nod App to refine our formalization pathways and contribute directly to Canada’s macroeconomic health. Our projections are built on live business activity not assumptions.
Projected Economic Impact
- Accelerated Revenue: Businesses in our cohorts are projected to achieve 20–30% revenue growth in their first year of formalization.
- Fiscal Participation: Access Lab graduates are projected to contribute $5M–$8M in annual tax participation.
- Wealth Creation: The Foundation is facilitating $100M in new, verifiable revenue across our cohorts.
- Scalable Impact: Currently transitioning 1,000 businesses, with a decade-long goal of 10,000 enterprises formalized into Canada’s economy.
Core Research Outputs
Powered by the Nod App’s live dashboard, our Research & Insights centre delivers the following:

- Formalization Metrics: Tracking the speed at which businesses transition to tax-participating, formally registered entities.
- Digital Readiness Assessments: Measuring AI adoption and technology integration to close the national productivity gap between Black-owned businesses and the broader market.
